November 8, 2008Sexism in the rock music business? So, am I the only one who's noticed that there aren't many rock bands with girls in them recently? Personally, there's only five that I can think of off the top of my head that have/have had women in them: I Am Ghost with Kerith Telestai, Evanescence with Amy Lee, Paramore with Haley Williams, Lacuna Coil with Cristina Scabbia, and Eyes Set To Kill with Alexia and Anissa Rodriguez. There are many all-male bands that are extremely successful. I'm sure I don't even need to give examples of those. Just turn on your radios or pop in your favorite cd. I almost guarantee you that if you're a rock fan, your favorite band is probably only guys. But then again, that's just my opinion. Obviously, females are very talented artists, vocally and instrumentally. Just look at Alicia Keys and Madonna. But what's hindering them from succeeding in bands? Is it that guys don't want women to be in their groups, fearing problems that may be caused? Or is it that record labels don't see potential in most bands that have a girl in them? What do you think?
